Things I Find Interesting: Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013 Edition

Hyatt purchased the Peabody Hotel in Orlando.  I’ve stayed at the Peabody in Memphis, where they share the tradition with the Orlando property of the ducks in the lobby fountain.  It’s a cool tradition they practice daily.  The Peabody in Orlando is a massive convention hotel, some 1600 rooms.  I’ve heard the property is in great shape and I’m sure I would consider it if I was in Orlando for a convention.  But, I enjoyed my stay at Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress which is right around the corner from Disney World and would probably return their for leisure stays.  That being said, I’m always happy to see more Hyatts.

Starwood’s fall promo is made sweeter for those folks who collect Aeroplan points.  5,000 miles for 5 nights is a pretty decent bonus especially if you already had Starwood stays planned.  If you were on the fence about where to put hotel bookings this fall, I don’t think Starwood’s Take Two is compelling enough to change hotels for.  But, if you collect Aeroplan miles as well I think this makes it a much clearer choice.

If you’re flying with kids, how about a free flying nanny?  The first time we flew overseas with our daughter she was just about 3 years old.  Our biggest fear falling asleep in Business Class was our daughter waking up while we were asleep and terrorizing the cabin.  Having someone to entertain younger kids while in flight is a nifty perk.

Not only won’t you find flying nannies on Swiss Air, but you won’t find yourself in a First Class seat using miles from another Star Alliance carrier, like United.  You can only redeem Miles & More miles unless you’re a HON Circle member (one of Lufthansa’s super elite fliers).  I’m a bit surprised and disappointed, since I’ve never flown F on Swiss.  I’ve done so on Lufthansa and loved it.  Doesn’t look like I’ll be replicating that on Swiss.

Enjoy flying First Class?  Always aspired to fly in a private jet but thought it was too expensive?  Stephanie Rosenbloom of the NY Times takes a spin and breaks down some new approachable private jet options.  I’ve flown a private jet just a handful of times, and certainly not mine.  I don’t roll in those circles.  But, it sure was awesome to do so.  Comfortable seats, no security lines, step out of the plane into your rental car the airport staff pulled up on the tarmac for you.  Now if I could just hit Powerball…..

And, finally, if you’re interested in getting notice when Starwood Preferred Guest releases their discounted Starpicks, hit them up on Facebook.

Hope your travels are taking you somewhere fun!
