American Airlines Expanding: LAX, Europe And Latin America
American is adding a bunch of new service around the world. It seems like there’s a new announcement every week, so I figured I would take the time to highlight a few.
Los Angeles area American Airlines customers are seeing a bunch of new routes this spring and fall. April saw the following destinations added to the schedule:
Bentonville, Arkansas
Columbus, OH
Eugene, Oregon
Hartford, Connecticut
Indianapolis
Pittsburgh
Raleigh, NC
Redmond, Oregon
Bentonville makes sense to me. That’s Walmart’s HQ, so assumedly this allows easier Asia travel for their folks on American/oneworld by having a direct flight to a West coast gateway on American. Ditto on the reasoning for Hartford, since that’s General Electric country. Places like Columbus don’t immediately strike me as likely new destinations, but I’m not against a bigger network at all.
LAX also should get service to Sao Paolo, Brazil in the fall.
American also announced new service between DFW and Lima, Peru. It’s daily service, though the return flight from Lima that takes off at 2am is a bit brutal. American already flies to Lima from Miami.
The big plus here is that American is offering some pretty decent mileage bonuses for travel on this route through June 30, 2013. You’ll get 20,000 miles for every roundtrip on a business class or full fare coach ticket and 10,000 miles for discounted coach tickets. Register here.
*As a side note, I also read where JetBlue is spinning up FLL-LIM service as well later this year, which shows how the airlines see South America as a lucrative growth market.
Starting in April, American also started flying from Chicago (ORD) to Dusseldorf. There’s a generous bonus on these flights as well, pretty much the same as on Lima. Through July 15th, 20,000 bonus miles for full fare coach or business, 10,000 bonus miles for discounted coach. Registration link here.
The last new route they’re featuring that I want to cover is JFK-Dublin. I feel like American used to fly this route, but it’s “new” service that augments existing ORD flights.
JFK-DUB service starts June 12th, and the bonus offers are the same as for Dusseldorf and Lima.
