New Starwood And Hyatt Properties In The US And Europe

Starwood and Hyatt are busy expanding again in some interesting and useful places.

Starwood announced that the new Westin Houston Downtown is now taking reservations.  It’s located right across from Minute Maid Park, so if you’re one of the 7 people headed to an Astros game this season you’ll have a new place to pick for your rooming needs.  With the recent emphasis on limited or select service property development in the US, I’m always happy to see more full-service properties opening up in major markets.

Hyatt had the grand opening for their first Hyatt Place in New York City.  Located in Midtown Manhattan, the property has 185 guest rooms.  Seeing as how the rates in Manhattan continue to go sky high, hopefully a few more rooms will slow that pace down.

This property is a Category 4, which means 15,000 points per night and a new property in Manhattan again that’s a Category 4 after the Hyatt 48Lex jumped to a 5 recently.

Hyatt also announced plans for a Park Hyatt in Mallorca, Spain.  Barring any more additions in Spain between now and when this property opens in 2015 it will boost the total number of Hyatt properties in Spain to…..1.  This is definitely a weak part of Hyatt’s network.  And, while I’d prefer to see a city like Barcelona getting a Park Hyatt, I’ll never turn down another Park Hyatt location to spend my point at.
