787 BOS-NRT In Flight

The boarding process was done very quickly due to our delay. The process was very efficient, all the staff very friendly.

I did a bit of exploring around the cabin. As I had already been on the 787 twice at Boeing, some things were familiar to me, like the entryway with dramatic high ceilings.

A quick tip for those traveling coach (not me!), you’ll find row 45 has spacious legroom on the outer 2-seat portion.

The coach product looks comfortable, but the spacing/pitch looks a bit snug for my taste.

The business class seats are a typical, slightly slanted seat, not lay flat. They were similar to the seats I sat in on the Lufthansa A380 trip I took to Frankfurt last year. I did think the JAL seat was a bit more comfortable for sleeping.

I had a bulkhead seat 7H. There was plenty of room for the gentleman in the window seat next to me to get out even when I was fully reclined.

At first blush, I’d say I would prefer a non-bulkhead seat for the extra pocket in front and the monitor in the armrest of the bulkhead seat is a bit cumbersome to get out. That being said, since I couldn’t figure out how to lose the Japanese subtitles on the movie I tried to watch, I ended up just watching movies on my laptop.

As expected, the overhead bins are mammoth. My bag fit with plenty of room on top of it for another bag.

Plenty more to come. I’m uploading this post from the Narita Express on the way to downtown Tokyo. More later!
